Do you eat a whole onion every day? Probably not. Neither do we. (Pass the mints please...) All jokes aside, unless you are one of the few who can claim this unusual feat, you may not get a good amount of Quercetin in your daily meals. In comes quercetin supplements to the rescue!
Quercetin is a flavonoid polyphenol that is naturally present in fruits and vegetables such as apples, berries, grapes, onions, broccoli, and many other foods. By scavenging radical oxygen species, quercetin is an antioxidant and exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-allergic, and antiviral activity. Most recently, it became popular as a potential partner in anti-aging stacks due to its senolytic activity in in vitro models, which can make DNA repair more efficient.

Efficacy Studies:
- 1002 subjects with ages varying from 18 - 85 years participated in a randomized, placebo-controlled study to determine the effects of supplementing 500 mg and 1000 mg of quercetin for 12 weeks. Results showed no significant difference between the placebo group and the quercetin group. However, middle and old-age subjects noted reduced sick days and self-reported increase in physical fitness. Quercetin supplementation and upper respiratory tract infection. Heinz et al. (2010).
- 900 subjects took quercetin supplements, 500 mg, 1,000 mg, or a placebo, for 12 weeks. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of quercetin supplementation on neurocognitive functioning. Results across all tests from memory to reaction time, etc., failed to indicate significant effects of quercetin on memory. Broman-Fulks, et al. (2012).
